How to Pay for Foreign Services With Crypto

Pay foreign services with crypto directly, via a crypto-funded card (Matrimix card waitlist) or gift cards. Compare the options, fees and risks.

You can pay for foreign services with crypto in three main ways: directly to merchants that accept coins, with a card topped up with crypto, or with gift cards bought for crypto. Matrimix lets you hold and swap coins in a Telegram wallet, and a Matrimix card for paying abroad is in preparation with a waitlist on /cards.

The three main options

Option 1: paying merchants directly in crypto

A growing number of hosting providers, VPN services, software shops and online stores accept crypto at checkout. Usually the merchant uses a payment processor that shows an invoice with an amount, an address and a network.

How to do it well:

  • Match the network exactly. If the invoice says USDT on TRC20, send USDT on TRC20 — not ERC20 or BEP20.
  • Watch the timer. Invoices often expire in 15–60 minutes because the rate is locked for a limited time.
  • Account for the network fee. Some processors require the exact amount to arrive; send a little extra if the wallet deducts the fee from the amount.
  • Keep the TXID. It is your proof of payment if the order does not update.

If you hold a different coin, you can swap it first on the exchange — the full cost of each route is shown before you commit and coins go straight to the address you enter.

Option 2: a card topped up with crypto

When a service accepts only cards, a crypto-funded card is the most universal option. You send coins to the card provider, they are converted into fiat, and you pay as with an ordinary card.

What to check before choosing one:

  • top-up and conversion fees, and whether the rate is shown before you confirm;
  • foreign currency fees and monthly fees;
  • identity verification requirements and limits;
  • which countries and merchants the card works with.

Option 3: gift cards

Many marketplaces sell gift cards for app stores, games, streaming and retail for crypto. This works for one specific service but has limits:

  • gift cards are often locked to a region;
  • a balance can only be spent in one store;
  • codes from unknown sellers can be already used or invalid;
  • refunds are rare.

Buy only from reputable sellers and redeem the code right away.

Risks for every option

  • Irreversible transactions. A crypto payment cannot be charged back. Check the address, network and amount.
  • Exchange-rate movement. The value of BTC or ETH can change between quote and payment; stablecoins reduce this risk.
  • Frozen funds. Custodial card providers and exchanges can freeze balances after a risk review. Keep records of where your coins came from.
  • Phishing. Fake checkout pages copy real ones. On Matrimix, deposit addresses are signed and can be verified (see Security).

Lawful use only

Paying for services with crypto is a normal, lawful use of digital assets. Matrimix screens every exchange destination and refund address against the OFAC SDN sanctions list and does not process matches; prohibited use is listed in the Terms. Card and gift-card providers have their own rules and local laws apply — check them before you pay.

Preparing in the Matrimix wallet

The wallet opens in Telegram and gives you deposit addresses in 15+ networks, including USDT on TRC20, TON and Solana. Depositing is free; transfers between Matrimix users by Matrimix ID are instant and free. Withdrawal to an external address costs the network fee plus a small fixed fee, both shown before you confirm (see fees).

FAQ

What is the easiest way to pay a foreign service with crypto?

If the service accepts crypto at checkout, pay directly in a stablecoin on the network shown in the invoice. If it only accepts cards, a crypto-funded card is the most universal option.

Can I use the Matrimix card today?

Not yet. The card is in preparation; join the waitlist on the Cards page to be notified at launch.

Which coin should I pay with?

Stablecoins such as USDT or USDC avoid price swings between quote and payment. Choose a network with low fees that the merchant supports.
